Learning! Who is threatening the cops around here?
In an ongoing effort to shift our stereotypes around, here are some facts about violence against police officers:
The number of police who've been shot and killed in 2016 is up an astounding 59% from where it was this same date last year (from 10 to 16).
71% of shot officers were shot by white men.
Of course, this is not to say that white men are the enemy or that we should now start shooting white men on sight the same way black men (and women) have been treated.
This is to say that we've got some major adjusting to do on our impressions of who is killing whom around here.
Do a quick google search of "white person with gun" or "police talk down white person with gun" and see how frequently white people have demonstrated clear danger with guns and lived to tell the tale, while little black boys with toy guns in their front yard get shot.
