A little while ago my Facebook feed was filled with people sharing this lecture from anthropologist Wade Davis, originally aired in the Milton K. Wong Lecture Series. I finally got around to giving it a listen, and it is fantastic.
He starts off with this incredible opening:
"Technology is never a threat to culture, nor is change a threat to culture. What is a threat to culture is power. In every case, these are living, dynamic peoples, not fading away but being driven out of existence by identifiable forces."
You've got to head over the the CBC page to listen to it, and it is well worth the trip. Listen now! (Or later, I guess, if you're not really in a place to listen to a 54 minute radio show right now.)
