This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

Hanging out on the beach with a friend for her birthday and still got home in time for my usual bedtime even though it was a beach allllllll the way on the other side of town.

The person who hit my balcony with their moving truck because they were super proactive to deal with it right away and so I didn't have to fight anyone to take responsibility.

My neighbourhood bike shop for quickly repairing my bike's snapped cable even though they were so busy.

The somewhat last-minute opportunity to go backpacking with a friend in the MIDDLE OF THE WEEK and sitting by a river, drinking rose, and even being able to make a little campfire.

Gertie coming in for cuddles every time I lie down.

Seeing my dad for Father's Day! He had a surgery recently and it was good to see that he's recovering.

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT: Tried a new thing and the results were DREAMY!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

My dad's surgeon for (it seems) doing a good job and that his surgery went really well and he is already feeling better!

Seeing my mom for breakfast and all the restaurants with easy outside patios that we can sit on.

My bank for cancelling a payment I made by accident to the WRONG CARD and would have been a whole big thing.

Having lunch with a really dear friend who I don't see very often and who truly embraces the notion of not needing to put in effort when we see each other.

The weather for becoming suddenly summer (please someone write a "Suddenly Seymour" parody about summer magically appearing) when it was supposed to still be a little rainy and now it's noooooot!!!

Being able to celebrate a good friend's birthday, even if it was at 9am on a Sunday (more due to the existence of children than COVID).

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT: Waking up on mornings where I have actually gone to bed early enough to get enough sleep and wowwwwwwwwww it's so much better.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

My coworker putting my biking clothes in the dryer (with hers) because we both got caught in the rain on the way into work and air drying wasn't going to cut it.

Happy hour in the park with a friend who I deeply enjoy but don't see very often, and also the fact that she remembered we had set the date with the intention specifically of discussing some mental health practices and not just to hang out, so I got both!

The car co-op I am a member of because I needed to buy more flour (in the giant bag) and it is so much easier than transporting it on my bike.

A meeting of the new book club I've joined that is freaking awesome and full of some very smart and cool ladies.

The fact that camping is allowed right now, so I got to spend some quality time with my friends and their kiddos. (Also, do you realize we are entering a world where we won't have to think about what we are "allowed" to do socially and just... have to make decisions???? Weird.)

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT: I awkwardly put out there that I miss my old nickname and maybe people could call me that again and I instantly got a reply from a woman I work with being like, "Done!" and it felt so good!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

Getting super quick results on a COVID test so that I didn't have to sit around in isolation for very long and for the friends who were on the ready to deliver food and anything else I needed if I did have to stay in isolation! (And also that it was negative, babeeeee!)

Getting my first COVID vaccine!!!!!! For all the scientists and healthcare workers and other workers who dropped everything to make this happen and even for the governments who knew to prioritize this and that they made sure Indigenous communities got it before I did.

BC announced its restart plan and while aspects of it did freak me out a bit, it was really comforting to see a plan that is based on clear markers and science instead of a reckless rush to re-open.

My beloved soulmate bestie with whom I am as silly as can be and then super deep and we go on our anti-racist journey together and also she made a ridiculous Hamilton sign to celebrate me getting the vaccine.

The fact that I baked myself a cake!

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT: I was going for a jog (I know! A JOG!) around the track in a nearby park and a bunch of dudes were standing around and then, all at once, started leaping into the air like frogs. (Okay what they were actually doing was an interval workout and the jumping squats started, but it legitimately looked like they just said, "Hey! Let's act like frogs!" and then started chaotically jumping around.)

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

Having dinner with my mom and dad outside in a park! It was so lovely, even though we got takeout Indian food and forgot to order rice with the dishes and also didn't have plates so we ate off the lids to the takeout containers.

Giving blood for the first time ever (I guess I'm grateful to myself for that?) and the technician doing my needle was very friendly and nice to talk to but also there was a finance bro across the room from me also donating he was very interesting to watch.

A board member at my work who is going ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us develop a strategic plan and it is killer.

The fact that it was supposed to rain this week but it was mostly sunny instead.

To Nicki Minaj for Super Bass which I spent an evening learning the lyrics to so I can do a really good job lipsyncing along to it.

As always, calls and visits with friends because friends are everything I could possibly want.

This week's delight:

Teen punk band The Linda Lindas who wrote the song Racist Sexist Boy and I was agape with joy watching it!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

The last week I have been grateful for:

A lot! But I didn't write it down most days because of my aforementioned total lack of structure and thus discipline for most of the past week. But I did write down a little bit.

My mom, for giving me her tickets to an art exhibit so I could go experience something beautiful! And my friend who came with me even though it basically started at our bedtime.

A fellow strata member who showed up to support some meetings even though she didn't strictly have to.

The fact that I was able to have time off at all!

First of all, THANK YOU. I put that email subscription link on my blog and truly didn't know if anyone would click it. You did! What a delight!

Second, FeedBurner is being discontinued. I KNOW. I am supposed to be able to download all your email addresses and transfer you over to some other email delivery service, but it's not working. So this is your heads up that this service may just up and disappear. Not until July, but still!

For now, your best bet is to sign up for my newsletter. It goes out every other week with links to highlights from the blog and a little bit of bonus content. At the very least, it'll be a biweekly reminder to come scroll through the blog!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

These past two weeks (because I missed last week!) I have been grateful for:

A week off work where I have been able to relax, see friends (in an outside, distanced way, don't fret!) and get further in the book I'm reading. Also to completely spurn responsibility and learn that I do need some structure to my days otherwise I am a bit lost.

My friend who prepared a really loved set of reflection questions to a meeting.

Friends who keep showing interest in my random life explorations, asking for updates and wanting to know more about my hopes and dreams and challenges and stuff!

A sunny day where I had the courage to go do my stretches outside in a park (the one where other people are always working out so I fit in) and it felt so good to be outside in the sun, stretching.

Getting together with a friend in the park to celebrate her birthday.

Always grateful for my Dungeons & Dragons game and friends.

More and more of my friends are getting vaccinated!

Getting out of a Zoom meeting relatively quickly when it was with a person who generally prolongs Zoom calls indefinitely.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

This week I have been grateful for:

Spontaneous park time with a friend and then a spontaneous walk with another friend!!!

"Seeing" a play that was more of a choose-your-own-adventure audio experience and was truly enlivening and joyful!

Sitting in the park and making myself more animal ears.

A friend sent me some tips in my quest to do the splits that might just be helping!

Both for days in the office and days at home.

Little bits of ongoing D&D played via text instead of just waiting until we can meet up again online all together.

Got a free beer making kit!

This Week's Gratitude

This week I have been grateful for:

The return of park hangs season! It's sunny! It's sort of warm and definitely warm enough to be outside!

My friend's son (who is my heart-nephew) who, when I saw him, immediately wanted to share the story of a scary thing that happened that day, but he doesn't really have words yet, so he pantomimes it and makes little signal noises and it's so adorable.

For the first time, I was grateful there were not new health restrictions, because even though I think we need them I also just really wanted the artists currently working at the theatre to be able to do their show and they ARE!

I had a moment for casual conversation and bouncing ideas around with a coworker I don't often get to do that with, and it was really nice and helpful.

I got the answer to a question that's been bouncing around in my head for a while, and it may not have been the answer I was hoping for but it was the second best scenario, which may actually wind up being the best scenario. Either way, I don't have to wonder anymore!

I got stood up for a Tinder date I didn't really want to go on and got to sit in a park in the sun and read a book instead. WIN.

This Week's Delight:

- Having a staff meeting IN-PERSON and OUTDOORS in the SUN instead of over Zoom. It was the most delighted land acknowledgement I have ever given.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

This week I have been grateful for:

We had opening night for a new play (online only of course, sigh) and it went really really well! We tried some new technical stuff that worked well (minus one glitch, but whatevs) and the artists did a great job!

Justin McElroy's Twitter feed, because it has the perfect combination of information and snarky jokes that could have come from my bitter soul.

My team at work who are honestly killing it.

Gertie is on meds for her hyperthyroidism now and she is doing SO GOOD and now I'm remembering how she used to demand food all the time and it's a totally different vibe than desperately hoping I can feed her enough to keep her alive.

A friend who is moving (which I am not grateful for) made a video for me to let me know before she shared it broadly, which made me feel special and also the video was pretty funny.

It was a loooooong weekend!

Contractors were doing water work in my building and I was able to help them because they needed someone to open their water taps to get air out of the pipes and it felt kind of nice to be useful.

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT:

- Strangers who dress up like the Easter Bunny and drive around on Easter Sunday in the back of a pickup truck to visit children.

This week I have been grateful for:

A short story I wrote is getting published! This is a prettttttty big deal because while I have had my nonfiction writing published by other people, I have yet to have anyone accept my fiction writing and hoooooooo boy it's a dream! There is nothing like seeing the word "pleased" in an email response from a publisher!!!

I made croissants for the first time and they TOTALLY WORKED!!!!

The wondrous joy of in-person friendship because it's still so rare and hard to make happen!

Past Andrea prepped some financial documentation for current Andrea and made her life WAY easier.

I got a new (to me) sleeping bag that will keep me much warmer when I go backpacking and camping this summer!!!

I bought some fancy chocolate and it wasn't ringing up properly at the cashier so the guy just offered to make the price way lower than it really was! Discount chocolate!

THIS WEEK'S DELIGHT:

- The random guy on the bike who recognized my based on the poncho I wear cycling in the rain and asked where I got it.

- My neighbour's dog is totally getting to know me!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

This week I have been grateful for:

Getting to see some friends IN PERSON thanks to relaxed COVID restrictions--as I was watching my friends and their kids walk through the park towards me, my smile was so freaking big and uncontainable!

A few more walks with great friends because the conversation and movement and presence makes me feel like myself.

Some really, really productive and engaging meetings working on a strategic plan with a board member, because it feels great to make productive plans.

Getting some really high quality yoga mats from my neighbour who was moving because mine were falling apart.

Got out of a board meeting on time because it didn't look like I was going to!

My cat finally has medication for her hyperthyroidism because now maybe she'll EAT HER FOOD and NOT DIE.

This week's delight:

- Biking home from work, there was a horse and buggy on the street and I had to bike around it and it delighted me so much! I also felt bad for the people who were travelling the other direction at the nearest intersection because they were SO CLOSE but would never see it! Then I realized that maybe this horse and buggy goes by every day but at a slightly different time and so I'm usually the tragic person who just misses it and has no idea. What a world!

- A woman jogging wearing one of those parody t-shirts that had the Starter logo but the word "satan" underneath and I actually laughed out loud when I saw it.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

This week I have been grateful for:

A call with a friend I haven't spoken with for a while because it felt so good to reconnect!

I got to see my soulmate-bestie IN PERSON for the first time in ages and wow just sitting on opposite sides of a bench with her is amazing because we are truly meant to be.

A week of almost entirely sunny weather because it made me feel light and free and I was able to go for walks, sit outside, take photos, and otherwise enjoy myself.

My dad got his vaccine!!! Because now most of my immediate family is protected from COVID and that feels like such a relief and I also know that we are that much closer to eliminating this stupid virus with every single vaccine given.

I had a day where I thought I looked super-duper cute all dang day because it's nice to feel like you look nice.

This week's delights:

- I found a glass with palm trees on it at the thrift store and yowza, I'm in love.

- Is it weird that I delighted myself? I made some TikToks and almost no one watched them but I found them delightful, including doing reviews of clouds and also singing about the covid vaccine.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight

This week I have been grateful for:

- Receiving a warm & delighted laugh when I told a coworker that I was annoyed at the world that day because it momentarily made me feel less annoyed and appreciated.

- Getting my new credit card in the mail finally because I can start paying for things online again.

- The new staff member starting because it feels effing good to hire someone!

- Finishing reading my book because it was really good and I wanted to know what happened.

- A lovely offsite meeting with a coworker where we talked bigger picture plans and struggles because it felt a little more freeing.

- Figuring out how to use a new photo editing software because it's free online and now I can edit photos again!

- Sewing a new bike seat cover that I think will help protect my pants more while I ride because it was an accomplishment of something that's been bugging me for a while!

This week's delight:

- Friendship

- Seeing my friend's new baby and how obviously proud and in love she was

This Week's Gratitude & Delight Roundup

This week I have been grateful for:

Snow that didn't stick AT ALL so by evening there was almost no sign of winter because it just makes life easier.

Having a good "taking care of business" day where I got a warranty replacement for my vacuum, dealt with my lost credit card, and ran other errands because it makes me feel like I can DO life!!!

Having just enough leftover chips in my cupboard to fill my chip-eating needs when I got home from work because they were delicious and made me happy.

Figuring out some big things at work because that makes me feel like I accomplished something.

Seeing the play Mx online because it was so so beautiful even though it was on the internet and not in person.

Being able to commiserate with my coworker once I discovered new details about the provincial public health order that annoyed the heck out of me because it felt like I wasn't alone in my frustrations.

This week's delights:

- Daylight that lasted my whole bike commute home

- Discovering that there is a new communication app that I actually enjoy using (Marcopolo)

This Week's Delight & Gratitude Roundup

This week I have been grateful for:

Getting some things cleared up with my coworkers so we were on the same page because it makes things SO MUCH EASIER.

A power outage that let me go home in the middle of the afternoon (to work from home) because it made the second half of the day feel so chill.

My friend leading a meditation/scripture reading practice because she holds space so well and it was very peaceful.

Going for a walk with some friends in real life because three dimensions are a relief over two.

Seeing my doctor about an easily-dismissable issue that she has also had and so she was really sympathetic because it felt validating!

Myself for getting my closet shelf fixed and re-mounted securely after it ripped out of the wall because I now have a closet again and also it made me feel capable!

This week's delight:

- A picture of my nephew looking at the snow like a little dreamer.

- Seeing the tail of some creature flip into the ocean--it was probably a seal but maybe an orca? Or a mermaid? Or a sea monster???? It could be anything, really!

This week I have been grateful for:

A friend who picked up a faux plant from Ikea for me and when I picked it up from her it was way lighter than expected because it was so much easier to carry home.

Going to bed with my body tired from physical activity because it felt so good.

Got an article written and submitted because it was hanging over my head.

The person who accidentally took a key home from work was able to return it quickly because I didn't have to troubleshoot and it was a relief.

A board member's generous and caring response when I contacted her with an issue I didn't know what to do with because it felt like she really cared.

D&D! Because it is always fun and the friends I play with feel like familiy.

Good weather for biking to and from work because that makes life more pleasant.

Seeing my bestie for video chat happy hour because I got to see her dang face!

Being outside in the sun because it makes me feel alive.

A great staff meeting where we came up with some awesome ideas together because it feels like we are working towards something.

This week's delight:

- Grocery shopping with a toddler who danced while pushing the cart and noticed when the music was too quiet to dance to.

- The woman who ran out of the IGA to feel the sudden hailstorm.

- The movie Mars Attacks!

This Week's Gratitude & Delight Roundup

This week I have been grateful for

Getting my closet slightly more organized as I make plans to redo the whole thing because it gives me a sense of control.

Saying hello to my nephew over video chat and seeing his GIANT smile (like, huge, I don't know if his mouth is big or what, but it takes up half his face) because I love that kiddo.

Having friends who I can unpack complicated things with because I don't get stuck in my own brain and it feels like we're in it together.

Video chats with the kinds of friends who are so close and comfortable that it ALMOST feels like we're in the same room because I don't feel so alone.

Standing in the sunshine because it is fresh and bright and alive.

Being able to give someone something they requested because I got to help them AND clear some unused stuff out of my home.

Bending over, saying "oof" and then realizing my body didn't actually FEEL oofy! Because bodies not hurting is better.

Gertie making a point of curling up with me or reaching out as if she is trying to hug me because it feels like love.

A friend and a neighbour to get my bag back because they both went out of their way to help me.

This Week's Delight:

- My dad calling someone a dipstick

- A TikTok video about potatoes that made me laugh so so hard

- Putting Bernie into the Friendly Giant set.

This Week's Gratitude & Delight Roundup

Remember how I was going to start actually doing a gratitude journal again? And then I decided to use y'all for my accountability to actually do it?

Well, week one, it's working!

Here's a roundup of some of the things I was grateful for:

- A video date because it reminded me that there are single men out there who like to have conversations.

- Finding out that the reason my heat isn't working properly may be as simple as buying a new $30 thermostat because I may actually get a functioning heater!!!

- Getting a bunch of blog posts drafted because I like writing.

- Having a virtual happy hour with my soulmate-bestie because she is my everything.

- Getting an easy-but-boring and time-consuming task done at work because then I don't have to think about it.

- Several non-rainy commutes to and from work because then my bike ride is so much more pleasant.

- A few meaningful and tough conversations with friends because they made me feel closer to them.

- Gertie lying on my chest and purring and reaching out like she wants to hold me because it makes me feel warm and loved.

- A morning spent writing a comedy book that will probably go nowhere but made me laugh so much while I was doing it.

- A sunny walk because it made me feel free.

- Trying a new "ritual" for a group that meets weekly because it felt nice and I think it helped bring meaning to our gathering.

Also, this week I was delighted by the sky, Gertie, and my nephew's smile.
