This Week in Church: Belonging and Barbed Wire

Welcome to the series wherein I share my take-aways from church. The things that, I think, are beneficial to all of us to know or think about, whether or not we believe in any church-related things.

This week in church, we talked about belonging and barbed wire.

"Are there barbed wires at the edges of my form of belonging?"
-Pádraig Ò Tuama

We all want to belong. It's an important part of existing in this world. Sometimes our sense of belonging is inclusive and joyful and life-giving and makes the world a better place. Other times, it is exclusive and divisive and hurts others and makes the world a more painful place.

We are all capable of both, and I would wager that we all can be a part of both kinds of belonging at the same time.
