This Week in Church: Coming As You Are and Knowing Yourself

Welcome to the series wherein I share my take-aways from church. The things that, I think, are beneficial to all of us to know or think about, whether or not we believe in any church-related things.

I think that church can teach things that are beneficial to everyone, whether or not we believe in church-related things.

This week in church we talked about coming as we are.

"Come as you are, not as you think you should be."

I think we should all remind ourselves of this every single day.

This week in church we talked about knowing ourselves.

"We can't know who we are without looking outside of ourselves."

I have been turning this concept over in my mind for a few days now. Generally, self-knowledge is seen as being a very introspective thing, and while introspection is certainly valuable, what about the things we learn about ourselves from looking out? Everything from how other people react to us to the things that happen inside of us when we are out and interacting with the world?
