I certainly understand a discomfort with being left alone with one's own thoughts. I whip out my phone when my brain is idle for more than a second and have to forcibly stop myself from opening Facebook
yet again for no reason at all. Of course, I do that because I know it's valuable to spend some time with your own brain - it encourages creativity, rest, and new ideas.
Turns out, however, most people would prefer to receive painful electric shocks than be left alone with their own thoughts.
